Being present for each other

I saw a post on social media, actually, one that then prompted another person to share.

A very popular Instagram figure, has shared her heart through poetry, which has touched hundreds of thousands of people around the world (one of the positives of social media). The author’s writing is helping to heal a lot of past hurts because of her candidness, peace and love that she brings to the table. She shared a message that she received, and shortly after shared another very similar one that someone else shared to encourage the first person.

You see, social media is a community. It can be used for positives as well as negatives. In this situation, there is a woman who is offering to help another heal, from around the world, because one was brave enough to open up about her struggles.

I think that’s where God wants us. He wants us to help each other, just like ‘iron sharpens iron’ so too we are called to show and extend love to others. We don’t need to be next door neighbors, social media is great for that, but we do need to be open to allowing the Holy Spirit to lead in our lives and allowing us to see where others need us.

I heard someone say that sometimes we have become so busy staring at our phones as we are walking down the street that we are missing the people that we have been called to minister to. I know I’m guilty of that.

I want to be more aware of my surroundings that I do not miss that one person that God has placed in my path that He wants me to see and be a blessing to. Sometimes that also calls us to slow down the pace of our lives, and to listen to Him. When we get busy, we have a tendency to be rushed and don’t have time to spend in His presence. It’s only through constant communication that we will hear His voice.

Dear Heavenly Father, please help us to slow down and to listen to you. Help us not to be so busy that we miss the people that you have placed in front of us for us to minister to their needs. And Lord, soften our hearts so that we do not misjudge situations based on our preconceived notions. Speak to our hearts and convict us of the work you would have us do.
