Bad company corrupts good character

1 Corinthians 15:33 states “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”” NIV

One of the goals I set for myself a few years ago was to be abreast of the news. It is important for me to be aware of what’s going on as it impacts my work and general national and international news can move the stock markets. Over the last few months as I’ve watched countless people get indicted for various reasons, I can’t help but think ‘be careful of the company you keep’.

This is not a political post. It’s just my observation of the happenings around the country and the lessons I’m learning from it

Many mighty men and women are being brought down based on who they are connected to. Growing up, my mom used to tell me ‘birds of a feather flock together’. This has been a warning in my ear since I was little. I may not have always made the wisest choices with who I chose as my friends, but as you know, moms can spot bad company a mile away.

As I’ve grown older, I believe this sentiment rings even more true – ‘be careful of the company you keep’.

Take a look at your friendships: are they encouraging you to grow? Are they encouraging you to do the right thing, with the right attitude?

My friends have become the iron that the Bible talks about – ‘iron sharpens iron’. They are sharpening me for a higher purpose.

Friends, let us choose wisely who we surround ourselves with.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that there are lessons even in the news. Help us to choose wisely. Help us to have a humbled spirit that will listen with an ear for correction when it is needed.
