As we are in a season of Thanksgiving, I am pausing to choose to be thankful.
This Thanksgiving was very low key, and yet it had everything we needed.
My mom, daughter and I crossed state lines to celebrate with my mom’s best friend, since before I was born, and her husband. My aunt has been the one to pray for us for many years, until we gave our life to Christ and she has been wonderfully consistent in her love for us, and now her husband has joined in that consistency towards us as well.
When we planned the visit weeks ago, we had no idea it would be what it was, and yet, it turned out exactly as we all needed.
For the first time in visiting their home in probably 15 years, I had an opportunity to serve her. She normally caters to us such that we don’t have to move from our seats (this is a thing that brings her joy). But this trip, in the simplest way, we were able to serve her, and this brought so much joy to us.
Dinner was simple, yet filled with all the good foods and love.
Somehow, we even forgot to do the traditional going around the table and saying what we were thankful for, and yet, our thankfulness and gratitude was palpable.
Thanksgiving this year may have looked very differently than you have expected, were you able to still pause and be grateful for even the littlest light in your life? It’s on the days where we may find ourselves not sure what we can be thankful for that when we dig deep and look around, we realize just how grateful we can be.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that even in the midst of life, when it looks nothing like we expected, we can take a moment and give thanks. Thank you for your copious amounts of blessings that you pour on us. Thank you for the love that you provide through the people you have put in our path. We say ‘thank you’ for your goodness and mercy towards us.
