What do you do when you have too much on your plate and you need to handle it all? It’s easy to become frustrated and overwhelmed by the enormity of tasks that are set before you. I see many parents posting pictures of their kids already headed back to school and I’m scratching my head and wondering where did the summer go. I’ve been so busy, and sometimes to the point of being overwhelmed that I feel like I put my head down to do work in June, I looked up and it’s now August.
So what do you do in those times that your life is beyond your control and you are overwhelmed with all the things that need to be done? For me, I stop. Don’t get me wrong, I stop for a few minutes at a time, walk away and go take lots of deep breaths.
Because I’ve been so busy, I haven’t been able to fit working out into my life, but I’ve still needed the peace that working out gives me. So, I wake up at the same time, as if I was going to the gym, and give myself 10 or 15 minutes to myself to just breathe and to focus on the important things, me, and meditating on the good things in my life and God’s goodness to me. I assure you, my life if not perfect, but I’ve come to realize I have a lot of things that are good and that I’m thankful for.
So, if you are feeling overwhelmed today, just stop! At least for a little while. You’ll find that you are more productive and not spinning your wheels when you return to your task.
Lord, I thank you for Your peace in the midst of storms and being overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done. Help me to continue to focus on you, and sometimes to step back for a brief moment so that I can see clearly how to proceed with the task at hand.
