As my daughter and I have more time and the weather is warming up, we’re attempting to do more outdoor activities.
She likes to ride, and I walk. Or, she’ll try to roller skate, while she holds on to my hand for dear life because she has a fear of falling. But this week she asked to do a new activity. She wanted to play soccer with me.
I remembered at some point many years ago we had bought a cheap ball for her to play with, but it wasn’t even a real soccer ball and I had no idea where to find it. While we were both a little bummed, she also knew neither of us were venturing to the store to buy one.
The next day as we went riding for our mental break and exercise time, I text a mommy friend that we were passing by her home and she and my daughter’s friend could wave from their window as we were passing by (we are seriously exercising social distancing).
They both came to the steps, and we stayed out by the street. The adults got to catch up for some much needed socializing, while the kids did their best to keep their distance from each other. The topic of a soccer ball comes up and this mom says, ‘oh, I have an extra that I could give you’. After careful sanitizing and leaving it on the ground, we walked home with a Nike soccer ball – even better than the one we had.
As we were walking, I was careful to point out to my daughter how much God cared about the details of our lives. I told her I hope she’d always remember that, and she promised she would.
We have both been able to play soccer and I can teach her the skills I didn’t even remember I had, which brings her such laughter and joy.
Either the same night or the following night as we picked up her kids devotional bible for her bed time reading, she commented how big it was because of all the wonderful stories and devotions in it. When we opened to a ‘random’ place in the Bible – that exact devotion had to do with all the Bible stories and how God had shared them for us to learn of Him.
We both giggled and squealed with delight and amazement. She had just made a comment, opened the Bible, and it addressed her very comment. I once again used the opportunity to teach her that God hears everything and cares about the details.
Are you concerned about a particular situation?
Just like God is showing me and my daughter, I want to remind you that He cares about you and the details too.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for loving us in such a practical way that you show us that you care about our simple wants. Father, help us to trust that you are capable of taking care of our needs, according to your riches in glory.
