A New Sippy Cup

Did I tell you my daughter is obsessed with containers?

Whenever we go into stores, she looks at food containers, water bottles, and anything that will house something else.

On one of our most recent Target trips, she saw a sippy cup. Mind you, this sippy cup is for a toddler. She had birthday money and insisted she wanted to buy it. I told her no, thinking of all the other containers that are now in my home, taking up good real estate. She insisted she wanted it. I insisted that it wasn’t wise to buy yet another cup.

If you know my daughter, you know how persistent she is and relentless in her pursuit of what she desires.

She asks, I tell her no, and definitely not with my money.

One night as we said our prayers, she decided to bypass me, and go straight to God. She has a standard prayer each night, and that night, she added an ask for a sippy cup. I chuckled at her persistence. I’m still not getting it for her, I thought. I was curious if God would answer such a prayer.

A couple days later, I had forgotten about the prayer, but not about the sippy cup as that request still came up every few minutes.

My dad stopped by to see us, and she tells him that she wanted this sippy cup. My dad listens to her, and they come up with some agreement and he gives her the money for it – and even way more than she needs for the cup. How? Why?

Then, I remembered her child-like faith of going to God with her request. And.. He saw fit to answer – even better than she anticipated.

Then the day we were scheduled to go back to Target, her dad ended up taking her and she got her sippy cup and didn’t even have to use her own money.

Are you lacking something? Have you asked God for it? And… It’s ok to be like the persistent widow (or my persistent daughter).

I love that I get to witness how much God cares about strengthening my daughter’s faith, even in the simple things.

Dear Heavenly Father, even now I am smiling that you care about the little things that we care about. Would you help me to believe and have a child like faith like my daughter that I can come boldly to you with my requests, no matter how big or small I may think they are?
