A Giver of Good Gifts

I recently purchased a bunk bed for my daughter.
Did she need one? Not at all!
But this was one of her heart’s desires for many years now. Somehow she likes the idea of climbing her bed to go to sleep.
After she asked for the umpteenth time – never really forcing the issue – I decided it was time. Her birthday is coming up in a few weeks and this would be a fun opportunity to redesign her room.
As she is normally, she knew exactly the one she wanted. We searched the websites for it, and purchased it. Once we knew it would be delivered, every few hours she’d ask me to track the shipping. Patience is not her thing… it’s not mine either if I were to be honest.
When it was a few days from being delivered, I realized her current mattress might be too heavy for the top bunk. I decided to throw a new mattress into the mix of surprises. We ventured out to the stores for the first time in four months to look at new bedding.
I think based on a quick conversation, she too realized that her current mattress might be too heavy for the top bunk – and she started getting concerned. She kept asking me about it, and because I knew the new mattress was on its way, I would simply ask ‘do you trust me?’, while smiling to myself.
These conversations were sobering for me. I felt as if God was asking me the very same question… ‘Kaysi, do you trust me?’…
On the morning that her bed was to be put together, the trusty two day delivery dropped off her new mattress at 9:00am. When she saw the packaging, she squealed and was almost to the point of tears. I reminded her that I was her mom, and knew just what she needed, and that she has now learned that she could trust me.
Again, it was a sobering moment. Our Heavenly Father asks me the same question often… and all I have to do is to look at His past record and confidently say ‘Yes, I trust You’… even my daughter has learned this lesson. Her comment to me was ‘God has not failed me yet. I might have to wait a little for what I want, but He always comes through’.. she had been asking for this bunk bed for quite a few years.
I pray I always remember these trust lessons.

I’m reminded of the verse that says ‘If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!‘ Matthew 7:11 NIV

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you are the giver of good gifts and you have proven time and again that we can completely trust you. Your timing may not be the same as ours, but each time you continue to prove it is much better. Thank you for being a good Father.
