A braying washing machine?

A few weeks ago, I started a load of laundry. There seemed to be nothing out of the norm. I started it and went on to do my other chores around my home. When it got closer to the spin cycle – it sounded like there was a donkey in our home – which of course terrified my daughter!

The sound was both funny and terrifying as I didn’t initially know where it was coming from. Once I located the source, I stopped the machine. It was full of water and clothes. I gave it a few minutes and started it again. Same results – it sounded like a braying donkey.

I called my dad – who told me to call my plumber. My plumber was unable to make it to me.

I gave it a few days and tried again. Same results. As soon as it got to a certain spot in the wash cycle, the noise would start, and I would quickly have to stop it.

This went on for two weeks. Me trying with the same load of laundry, adding soap – only to get the same results – a braying washing machine.

Then it finally occurred to me that I could take out the clothes and squeeze enough water out, then attempt to dry them (my plumber still hadn’t had the time to come diagnose the issue). I proceeded with the arduous task of wringing them out – but soon got tired because there were so many pieces.

I called my mom and was explaining my frustration, and she shared that she had overloaded her machine and gotten some funky results. The thought had never even occurred to me that my machine had been overloaded. As I’d already taken about half out, I decided to try running the rinse and spin cycle.

Voila!!!!

Are you overloaded and trying to do too much? Are you feeling the weight of an over packed Christmas/holiday schedule? Jesus reminds us to cast our cares on Him, because He cares for us.

Today, I won’t overload my washer or my life as I’m realizing that everything has its limit, and especially my capacity to handle the things that life throws at me. Cast your cares on your Heavenly Father, I promise you, He cares for you.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for this simple reminder that I was not meant to carry such a heavy load. You have promised me that if I choose your yoke, that it is light. Help me to choose you. Help me to see when I have overloaded my life and I am running beyond capacity as just like my washing machine, my life will display signs that I am overburdened.
