Did you know it’s possible to have a 20/20 vision and still not be able to see clearly?
I’ve seen it twice in the last year. A year ago my daughter was having a slightly difficult time seeing and so I took her to the eye doctor. After running all the usual tests, he declared that she had great vision. But, from time to time she still complained of not being able to see very well.
In the last few months after turning 40 (the magic age for some people), I’ve realized my vision is not what it used to be. I had LASIK a few years ago and had been able to see great after the procedure. Lately, something had changed and I was having difficulty seeing certain things with clear definition when driving and especially when reading without proper lighting. To be honest, I was a little annoyed that I had spent all that money and in such a short time to go back to not great vision.
When I visited the doctor, and after the usual tests, he declared that I too had 20/20 vision. But… he shared that due to the procedure, I had a slight case of dry eyes that was causing my vision to not be as clear and prescribed some eye drop lubricants (and a reading glasses if I wanted). He even went on to compliment the doctor on how great a job had been done with the procedure.
As I drove the next day, and still had my slightly blurry vision, I started to think how sometimes we think that 20/20 vision will give us all the answers we need. Or the saying that hindsight is 20/20. And especially as we approach the year 2020 and we think we should be able to see clearly what’s ahead.
Sometimes, no matter how great our vision is, we still need to ask God for His spiritual eyes. It is only when we have that, that we will be able to see clearly, and unfortunately it may not even happen this side of heaven. So, let us continue to press forward, asking for wisdom and clarity, and a spiritual vision to see what God has in store for us.. or even why He has allowed some things to happen in our lives.
Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see ” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:17
Dear Heavenly Father, there is so much going on around us that we may not see. Father, I ask that you give us your spiritual eyes. Sometimes our vision is perfect in the natural realm, but yet we cannot see with clarity. I ask that you give us the wisdom to see things as you see them that we may keep moving forward in Faith.
